We caught up with Featherstone Rovers’ Brett Ferres about the upcoming season and making the move to the Club earlier this off-season.

Ferres, who has over 300 Super League appearances and a 2017 Grand Final victory to his name, signed with Featherstone from Leeds Rhinos earlier this pre-season.

In a Q&A session at the RFL Championship Launch Event, we asked the 33-year-old about his motives behind the move to Rovers and his thoughts on the 2020 Betfred Championship season.

Brett, how pleased were you to have joined Featherstone Rovers earlier in the off-season?

“I’m really excited, it’s going to be a different challenge for me. I’ve been full-time for a few years now, so to come into a part-time environment has been different, but I’ve enjoyed it.

“I’ve enjoyed the evening training and the vibes around the Club are really good, especially coming out of a really strong back-end to the season from last year.

“You can feel a real buzz around the Club after the play-offs and the Grand Final from last year, everyone is excited for this season to kick-off."

What attracted you to join Featherstone?

“They offered a really good challenge, Rovers a real up and coming Club, they’ve got some really good people around the place, I know some of the staff and the players here spoke really highly of the Club.

“When I was with Leeds Rhinos last year, they had a couple of dual-registration players at Rovers, and those lads had nothing but good things to say about the Club.

“It seemed a perfect fit, there’s a lot of things that pushed me towards Featherstone, but I’m just really excited now and can’t wait to get started with the season."

We’re here at the RFL launch, do days like this gets you excited for the upcoming season?

“It does get you excited, they’ve put on a great event, obviously you have all the different Clubs here with their coaches and players, so you get to go around and speak to some of the boys.

“I’m pretty new to the Championship scene, but it’s exciting and I’m learning all the time. When you see all the boys getting kitted up, it makes you look forward to the games starting."

Is there any teams that you’re looking out for?

“It’s a really strong competition, the last few years there’s always been four or five teams that will really push hard for promotion.

“You look at London, who have come down from the Super League after doing really well last year. They will want to have a good crack at promotion again.

“Teams like Widnes, Leigh and Toulouse have gone out and made some good signings, Halifax are a really good Championship side as well.

“There’s plenty of good teams in the competition who are in a strong position to make a push for promotion and we will throw ourselves into that conversation as well. We’re excited by the challenge.

“We have to prove now that we can do it, we’ve got a settled group, the Club brought some good experienced players in and hopefully we can go one step further this season."

Finally, any personal goals for yourself this year?

“I just want to come here and make a difference. I want to stay fit and healthy and contribute to this team. If I can do that, I’ll be a useful asset and will be able to help us achieve our goals."

Brett Ferres will be proudly sponsored by CPM Contracts for the 2020 season.
