Featherstone Rovers have today signed youngster Jake Sweeting on a one-year deal.
The 20-year old joins the club from Castleford Tigers, following in the footsteps of Jack Render in making the trip over from the Jungle to the LD Nutrition Stadium.
Many Rovers fans may remember Sweeting from the last Boxing Day game against the Tigers as the youngster turned in an impressive performance at half back, capping it with an 80 metre break away try.
Sweeting is able to operate in the halves or at full back with plenty of experience in both positions after spending the last few years with Castleford’s Academy side.
The move to joining the Rovers will not only give the talented player a chance to play for the Featherstone first team but also Leeds Rhinos Reserves through dual registration.
Sweeting is excited about the prospect of joining Featherstone: “I’m looking forward to the year ahead not only for my development but for the team. I’ll be joining a team that has some talented players so hopefully I can get my head down and cracked on and hopefully get a few opportunities to put on a Rovers shirt.
Players like Craig Hall and Dane Chisholm have a tonne of experience and I’m going to be looking at them and the rest of the team to help me develop as a player and bring my game on.”
Steve Gill, Rovers Football Manager, is looking forward to seeing how Sweeting develops: “I’m pleased to bring Jake into the club. He will give us valuable cover along our back line. He has been through a really good system at the Tigers, and is really keen to prove himself in the Championship, and I’m sure he will fit in with a real good group of players”
