WORLD CLUB CHALLENGE WINNER JOINS ROVERS

WORLD CLUB CHALLENGE winner Cameron King has joined Featherstone Rovers for the 2019 season.

Rovers have beaten off stiff competition to secure the signature of the 27-year-old goal-kicking hooker, who has previously represented North Queensland Cowboys, Parramatta Eels and St George Illawarra Dragons in the NRL.

Featherstone Rovers head coach Ryan Carr said: “I’m very excited to have Cameron joining our club for the 2019 season.

“He is a very talented Hooker with plenty of NRL experience, and will be a huge asset for us at Featherstone this year.

“Having known Cameron personally for quite a few years, I know what a great person he is to have in a club. His work ethic and commitment are extremely professional and he will bring great leadership both on and off the field.

He added: “He has played in a lot of quality NRL systems from a young age and still has a lot of great footy ahead of him so I'm excited to be working with him and having him at our club for the upcoming season.”

King, who scored the winning try when he visited the UK in 2011 to claim the World Club Challenge with St George, is a former Australian Schoolboys captain and demonstrated his wider value to the game in 2018, by claiming th Ray Price NRL Community Award.

Featherstone Rovers General Manager Davide Longo said: “Featherstone Rovers are delighted to have signed Cameron King.

“He’s a quality player in a key position for us and he offers a vast amount of experience that will help the other members of the squad.

He added: “Ryan’s presence in Australia was hugely beneficial to us securing what is a massive coup for a Championship club.

“Ryan has been able to support our negotiations and now the pair are both excited to join up with the rest of the squad and commence the season.”

King, who is sponsored by Ross Travel, also adds to the overseas talent in the squad offered by Papua New Guinea internationals Ase Boas, Watson Boas and Thompson Teteh, as one of Featherstone’s overseas players for the 2019 season.

He will join up with fellow former World Club Challenge winner Brett Delaney in the Rovers squad.

You can watch the pair in action at the LD Nutrition Stadium in the 2019 Betfred Championship match  with a Featherstone Rovers #TogetherAsOne membership.
