Featherstone Rovers are pleased to welcome back Greg Worthington on loan.
The talented centre comes back to the club on a 9-match loan from Toronto Wolfpack and will help strength Featherstone’s back line options at the start of the season.
Worthington previously spent four seasons with the Rovers from 2011 to 2014 making 103 appearances and scoring an impressive 56 tries.
The now 29-year old left the club for Leigh Centurions before making the daring move to Canadian side, Toronto Wolfpack.
He was a member of the Wolfpack’s first ever game and has played 51 games over three seasons with the side.
The move back to Featherstone will allow Worthington to play consistent Rugby League during the early part of the season and keeping himself fit for a potential call up to Super League with his parent club.
Worthington is excited to be re-joining Featherstone: “I’m looking forward to joining up with the Rovers once again. The drive here was a bit nostalgic, thinking about the four years I was here previous. Walking into the place. Once again made me excited to lace my boots up and walk out of that tunnel and play in front of these fans once again.
“Obviously I spent a big chunk of my career at the club previously and it’s always had place in my heart so to be able to come back here even if it is on loan is something that I am really looking forward to.”
Steve Gill, Rovers Football Manager said: “We are pleased to be able to bring in a centre of the quality of Greg’s into the club at such a late stage. Initially the deal will be for 9 Championship games, which will cover the Easter period. We haven’t discussed anything beyond that as yet with Toronto bit I may be something both clubs explore at a later date.
“Tom Minns goes in for an operation tomorrow which should see him back around round 4 or 5 and with the recent signing of Conor Carey we look to have a pretty good back line in place for the start of the season.”
The move for Greg Worthington would not have happened if it had not been for our Centenary Squad Builder members. Donations from then have helped make this possible and the Rovers would like to thank every member who has already signed up.
Fans can join the Rovers Centenary Squad Builder for £10 and help the club recruit players like Worthington and provide vital equipment for the coaching staff.
