YOUNGSTER SPEDDING JOINS THE ROVERS

Featherstone Rovers can confirm the signing of Jake Spedding from Barrow Raiders.

The centre has joined the Rovers on a short term contract until the end of the 2019 season giving Ryan Carr’s side more depth in the outside backs.

This season, Spedding has made 20 appearances for Barrow in the Betfred Championship, scoring five tries in the process. He was part of the Raiders team that defeated Featherstone at the LD Nutrition Stadium earlier in the year.

Spedding is a former St. Helens youngster and made a handful of appearances for the current Super League League Leaders since making his debut in 2016.

The 22-year old spent a majority of the 2017 and 2018 season on loan with Sheffield Eagles in the Championship, playing in 28 games over the two years.

The addition of Spedding has been aided by the fantastic members that have already signed up to the Rovers Centenary Squad Builder. Already since the launch of the initiative, the Rovers have been able to sign Jack Johnson on a permanent deal as well as bring in Wellington Albert on loan. Spedding becomes the third player to have been signed thanks to the Centenary Squad Builder.

Spedding is excited to get started at Featherstone and shares the club’s ambitions: “When the opportunity came up to sign for Featherstone it was too good an opportunity to turn down, they are a huge club with big ambitions and I’m excited to be part of the team for the rest of the season and hopefully be successful through the playoff's and take Featherstone to Super League.”

Terry Mullaney the Chairman of the Rovers Centenary Squad Builder, would like to thank members of the initiative for their support: “I have to give a massive thanks to all our Squad builder members whose financial contributions have made this deadline day signing possible, as we enter into the final few weeks of the regular season we are pleased to provide the funding to get young Jake in at Featherstone to take the field in our famous colours. Were already enjoying the impact of your amazing support, and if we can maintain the current momentum of Squad Builder the long term future is indeed bright”
